The band were founded in 1968 and carried on initially right through to 1976 (with some chart success) and were an EMI signed artist. Very much part of the late 60’s and early 70’s underground scene the band were unique in that their political consciousness was very much to the fore. They have performed across the UK, including at the Purcell Room in London’s South Bank Centre, as well as Ronnie Scott’s and the Glastonbury Festival. They have been regularly played on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6Music, BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction, Resonance FM and the Arts Desk. Provincials also made a silent black-and-white medieval road movie Dark is a Long Way, which they released during lockdown. Their last album, Heaven Protect Us was recorded during partial lockdown with Dan Parkinson at Wooden Heart Studios in Andover, Hampshire. New album the Green Man Collection brings together tracks from their recent releases with new versions of three classics (including a reworking of 'Hard Times' featuring Status Quo's Francis Rossi), a cover of Elvis Costello's 'Shipbuilding' and the title track, a previously lost Bob Johnson song from the 1980s. The band will undertake a full UK tour in support, their first live dates of the year, where they will be joined by new violinist Athena Octavia.
