Lucy Kitchen + March Thursday 02 May 2024
Venue:  The Railway     map
Address:  3 St Pauls Hill, Winchester, Hampshire, SO22 5AE
Telephone:  01962 867795
Event:  Lucy Kitchen + March - 7.30pm - In a musical world that seems ever more dictated by fad and fashion, driven by bluster and bombast, concerned with big statements and immediate responses, it is reassuring to know that there are still artists unaffected by such concerns. Lucy Kitchen is everything that the usual modern approach is not. Her songs are deft and delicate, built on clean-limbed and gentle lines and embellished with only the absolutely essential sonic details. Beats are minimal, textures subtly woven and the music feels nothing more than gossamer and smoke-like layers skilfully interlaced to maintain a musical weightlessness.

Event:  Mind Imperium UK + My Black Poison + Supersonic Sloth + Hail - 8pm - With its latest release ‘Nemesis’, Mind Imperium expresses an ineffable despair through a unique blend of blackened death metal and dark ambient styles. Each song is a statement, a reminder that we are destroying wildlife and beyond, emptying oceans and forests of all their living creatures, thus leading ourselves to unavoidable extinction. Mind Imperium sings of the unheard scream of our oceans stripped of all life by the hand of men, of the bloodstained ashes of our forests whose life is burning away, the cub bereft of its mother’s warmth, of the father without a son.

Her music brims with incisive, well-observed songs full of searching vulnerability, ruminating on the things done to us and the various coping mechanisms and behaviors we adopt to feel in control in their wake. A standout staple of Nashville’s rock scene, Rose is “witty, brilliant company” (Pitchfork) and a “promisingly wry lyricist” (The Guardian) with a “wily and impressive blend of melancholy and cheek.” (New York Times). Her 2013 album ‘The Stand-In’ will be available remastered on vinyl this April 2024, as part of Record Store Store Day UK.
