Saturday 05 April 2025
Venue: The Lights map Address: West Street, Andover, Hampshire, SP10 1AH Telephone: Box office: 01264 368368 Event: The Nick Ross Orchestra - The Glenn Miller and Rat Pack Era - 7.30pm - Many years before the Beatles stepped onto the world’s most famous zebra crossing, Glenn Miller made his last known recording at London’s Abbey Road Studios on Monday 27th November 1944, just a few short weeks before he “disappeared” on December 15th of that same year. The lights soften, the mood settles. An audience waits for that first moment of sound. The Big Band is poised, relaxed, but with eyes anxious for the lead. And then, as if giving body to an echo, the murmured notes of ‘Moonlight Serenade’… and the night, it seems, is suddenly full and timeless. There are those who watch and listen who tap a shy finger to the melodies, others who follow with a silent foot-beat, still others who murmur softly through the lyrics, and those who simply permit a fleeting smile. But common to all are memories. Recapture the sounds of a bygone era as the Nick Ross Orchestra presents ‘an unmissable evening of music and song’ – the Classic Big Band Sound of the 1940s & 50s. Venue: The Railway map Address: 3 St Pauls Hill, Winchester, Hampshire, SO22 5AE Telephone: 01962 867795 Event: The Undercover Hippy - The Last Stand: UK Tour 2025 - 8pm - As the planet hurtles toward what feels like a never-ending season finale—chaos, climate crisis, and a world leader or two you wouldn’t trust with a toaster—The Undercover Hippy are stepping up to do what they do best: make sense of the madness, one song at a time. Based in Bristol and fronted by singer-songwriter Billy Rowan, The Undercover Hippy blend conscious lyrics with infectious grooves that hit harder than a tabloid headline. Their music fuses elements of reggae, hip-hop, and ska, serving up sharp social commentary wrapped in warm, danceable beats. Think The Specials meets Eminem, with a healthy dose of satire. But don’t let their easygoing sound fool you. The lyrics are sharp, addressing everything from corrupt politicians and corporate greed to the importance of compassion and unity in a fractured world. It’s this balance of humour and hard-hitting honesty that has won the band a dedicated fanbase across the UK and beyond. Venue notes: ID is required on the door. Venue: The Railway map Address: 3 St Pauls Hill, Winchester, Hampshire, SO22 5AE Telephone: 01962 867795 Event: TEENAGEWAITRESS.PPT – A Rock’n’Roll Powerpoint On Songs - Doors 7.30pm - Daniel J. Ash (Teenage Waitress) has gone and done something very stupid. He’s recorded a new album that he cannot perform. To solve this problem, and to fill his quota of anxiety-based meltdowns for the year, he has written a one-man show about his favourite subject in the world. Songs. It contains music, stories, reflections on songwriting, and visuals. When it came to how to present these various elements into a coherent show Daniel agreed that there was only one piece of software fit for the task. “It simply HAD to be Microsoft Powerpoint” he explains, “I mean have you seen those slide transitions?!?” TEENAGEWAITRESS.PPT is a playful blend of storytelling and music. In the show Daniel discusses and performs happy songs, sad songs, long songs, short songs, very short songs, stupid songs, love songs, duet songs, murder songs, song songs, and just about everything and anything in-between. ♫♪♪ Venue notes: ID is required on the door.
