This fine programme draws on the richness of music at the Sistine Chapel, which was not solely a treasure trove of visual art. Allegri's ‘Miserere' was jealously guarded by Vatican powers, but there was much more than that heard within those famous walls. Palestrina set many versions of the Mass, some of which provide the framework of this concert, where the Italian Renaissance will come to the Gothic nave of Winchester Cathedral. |
