Saturday 02 April 2011 -- EVENT HAS PASSED
Venue: Winchester Cathedral map Address: Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 9LS Telephone: 01962 857275 (box office) Event: Winchester Music Club Concert - 7:30pm - £28, £14 and £5 Tickets from Winchester Cathedral box office 01962 857 275 www.tickets.winchester-cathedral.org.uk. www.winchestermusicclub.org.uk. One of Haydn's last major works, The Seasons is a secular oratorio following the year from Spring to Winter. The three soloists and chorus take on the roles of various country folk enacting their seasonal tasks and reflecting on nature. Despite being written at the end of Haydn's long life, and causing him to complain that it 'broke my back', The Seasons is an exuberant work and some of the colourful orchestral passages seem to look forward to the tone-painting of the Romantic period. |
