Original folk blues and roots music. @RailwayLive Winchester Folk Club opened its doors in the Attic of The Railway in May 2010, its first night playing host to none other than Martin Simpson. The club presents top national and international acts from the world of folk music. In its short history it has boasted an impressive list of guest artists, including Jim Moray, Lau, Martin Carthy and Chris Wood. The aim is to put on a varied billing of shows which hosts established names, alongside introducing exciting new and up-and-coming acts. The monthly singarounds at the Hyde Tavern are free, informal evenings where everyone gets together for a drink, and to sing a song or play a piece of music. Despite only being active for around two years, Knifedoutofexistence has already built up an impressive discography, including a number of splits with both noise and hardcore bands alike. His latest album, ‘Immaturity Of Movement’, is undoubtedly his most cohesive work yet, weaving together lengthy, hypnotic feedback loops, punishing swathes of distortion and tortured vocals to create a bleak atmosphere that manages to somehow sound simultaneously introspective and aggressive. In Eastleigh’s most unique venue, The Courthouse formally the old Magistrates Court, Nick Tann acts as compere and guides the audience through the evening in his own inimitable fashion. All artists play 2 x 20 minute sets each to keep things fresh and interesting. The audience, seated on comfy chairs – candles on tables, and with the drink they bought themselves enjoy a great show. The action starts at 8pm and apart from a brief interval half way through finishes around 11.30. The show is actually performed in court number 1 so the facilities are second to none with plenty of FREE PARKING. No alcohol is served but the audience can bring their own booze and glasses.
