Winchester Folk Club opened its doors in the Attic of The Railway in May 2010, its first night playing host to none other than Martin Simpson. The club presents top national and international acts from the world of folk music. In its short history it has boasted an impressive list of guest artists, including Jim Moray, Lau, Martin Carthy and Chris Wood. The aim is to put on a varied billing of shows which hosts established names, alongside introducing exciting new and up-and-coming acts. The monthly singarounds at the Hyde Tavern are free, informal evenings where everyone gets together for a drink, and to sing a song or play a piece of music. This can be anything from unaccompanied singing to instrumental tunes, traditional or new, and is open to soloists, duos or larger groups. @ClubFolk |

This experienced and thoroughly entertaining band has played to enthusiastic and sell-out audiences for many years by providing a wide spectrum of music to suit all tastes. 50 talented musicians, who boast a total of 1,800 years as seasoned performers, will provide a programme including popular marches, big band sounds, musical theatre, music from films, radio and TV shows as well as favourites from the classics. The famous Portsmouth Military Wives Choir, as seen on TV this choir now needs no formal introduction. They will sing a selection of popular songs and bring to the evening glamour, flair and talent. Initially the line up was Chris Packham, Simon Olden, Gordon McGregor and brother Graham McGregor. Simon soon left to join Southampton punks Strate Jacket, and Chris became the TV Presenter. Their first gig was July 1981 at the Solent Suite in Southampton and more gigs followed at Club Manhattan and The Joiners in those early days. The band are mostly influenced by early 70's like Pink Floyd, glam rockers TRex, Rush. Classic punk bands The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Vibrators, The Buzzcocks, Dr Feelgood, Motorhead and The Damned...and in between that lot classic blues from Rory Gallagher...an unlikely combination! Starting life at Xenomania as the in-house drummer, within months she had drummed on a number one record for UK girl group Girls Aloud as well as other hits for Pet Shop Boys and Kylie Minogue, to name but a few. Florrie’s talents for vocals, songwriting and arranging skills soon revealed themselves, and within a year she had switched from the girl drummer at the back of the band to the front woman she was destined to be. Florrie decided the time was right to sign with a major label in 2013 she signed to Sony. Forced to go into hiding, she is sent to the last place anyone would think to look for her - the convent of the Queen of Angels Church. Living undercover as a modest, frugal nun is a drag, but when Deloris is tasked with improving the struggling choir, she discovers a 'habit' she might actually be destined for...
