Event:  Dean Friedman - 8pm. Book online at www.towerarts.co.uk. £17.50. The summer of 1977 marked Dean Friedman's entry into pop consciousness with the enormous success of his infectious hit single Ariel, a quirkily irresistible and uncategorizable pop song about a free spirited, music loving, girl in a peasant blouse who lived, as the lyric goes, '...way on the other side of the Hudson.' A year later, Friedman struck again, this time with a magical duet, performed with singer Denise Marsa, entitled Lucky Stars. Lucky Stars zoomed to the top of the UK singles charts going instantly gold. That now classic single Lucky Stars paved the way for a slew of hits off of Friedman's humorously titled album 'Well, Well Said the Rocking Chair', including familiar tracks such as Lydia and Rocking Chair as well as singles from his first album, Woman of Mine and Ariel. During the '80's, Friedman turned his hand to composing and producing music soundtracks for TV and film; composing, performing and producing the soundtrack to the underground cult horror film classic I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle.

Willie Nile Tuesday 19 October 2010 -- EVENT HAS PASSED
Venue:  The Mucky Duck
Address:   84 Hyde Street, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 7DW
Telephone:  01962 868144
Event:  Willie Nile - 9pm. Free entry. Do not miss this chance to see such an amazing artist live in your local. Willie Nile is a songwriter's songwriter. No less a personage than Lucinda Williams has said of him "Willie Nile is a great artist. If there was any justice in this world, I'd be opening up for him instead of him for me." Lou Reed hails Streets of New York as "a great album", while Graham Parker calls it "a real gem - stirring melodies, passionate vocals, intriguing lyrics... every track a winner". Willie made his recording debut in 1980 when his acclaimed self-titled LP on Arista Records, following it a year later with Golden Down. He also opened The Who's North American tour at the personal request of the band. In 1982, he signed to Geffen Records but got caught in a record-biz limbo and didn't manage to release another record until 1991, when Columbia issued Places I Have Never Been. With the EP Hard Times in America in 1992, which became a cult favourite throughout Europe, Nile finally managed to jump off the major-label hamster wheel. Gathering together his resources over time, he managed to put out his first self-released album, Beautiful Wreck of the World just before the end of the century. Watch a video of Willie live in Lisbon on 5 September 2009 performing House Of A Thousand Guitars with a 40,000 audience at www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd9n0Wgj2d4.
