On April 22nd 1959 at Columbia’s 30th street studio in New York City, Miles Davis completed his iconic album ‘Kind of Blue’ The album features Davis’s ensemble sextet consisting of saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, pianist Bill Evans, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb, with Wynton Kelly appearing on the track ‘Freddie Freeloader’. The album was released on August 17th 1959 and sixty years on is still one of the most successful jazz albums of all time. This time featuring Folk-Pop artists of the same era from the UK. Throughout the swinging sixties and early seventies, artists such as Ralph McTell, Cat Stevens, Lindisfarne, The Seekers, Steeleye Span, Mary Hopkin, Donovan, Sandy Denny and a few quirky ‘one-hit wonders’ (!) went toe-to-toe in the pop charts with Rock/Pop giants such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
