Charlie Watkins is an improvising clarinettist, based in London. Somewhat unusually for a modern jazz musician, Charlie specialises in clarinet and bass clarinet, with stylistic influences ranging from early jazz to the avant-garde. The clarinet, Charlie says, is one of the most adaptable, yet underused, instruments in modern improvised music. He is determined to see it regain an appreciation across the UK
