BRITTEN'S ‘WAR REQUIEM'
Start time: 7.30pm
As commemorations of the First World War move towards a close, Winchester Cathedral welcomes a performance of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, which interleaves the war poetry of Wilfred Owen with the traditional Latin words of the Requiem Mass. Written for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral in 1962, this deeply moving work calls for an adult mixed choir, boys' choir, full orchestra, chamber orchestra, three soloists, and organ. It is performed here by fully professional English Arts Orchestra with the English Arts Chorale and Burford Singers, and the boys choir of Bristol Cathedral. Conductors are Leslie Olive and Brian Kay.
