Wednesday 18 September 2024 Venue:  The Arc     map Address:   Jewry Street, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 8SB Telephone:  01962 398046 Event:  TARREN - 7.30pm - Tarren is an ambassador for New-Folk; music that is fresh and dynamic, rooted in the English tradition. Original and traditional material is expertly arranged by this trio of musicians who are creating music that moves and excites people. By incorporating modular hooks and minimalist forms, Tarren is leading folk music to a new place, while keeping the pulse of traditional dance at its heart. Tarren is made up of Bristol-based artists Sid Goldsmith (Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith, Awake Arise), Alex Garden (The Drystones, Harriet Riley & Alex Garden) and Danny Pedler (Pedler // Russell). They combine cittern and concertina, fiddle, and accordion to create their music. Tarren’s debut album REVEL was released in 2022 to high acclaim and was compared with the work of Faustus and Lau’s legendary debut album Lightweights and Gentlemen. The music of the classic line-ups of Wishbone Ash continues to delight audiences worldwide through both live performances and a rich legacy of recorded work that continues to be enjoyed by fans old and new. Classic album releases such as Wishbone Ash, Argus, Pilgrimage, Wishbone Four, There’s the Rub, New England and Live Dates defined the Wishbone Ash sound and touched the hearts of several generations of music fans. A unique sound with a fusion of British soul. Internationally renowned, legendary drummer, SAM KELLY, has been a professional musician for more than 40 years. His playing career started in the early 1970’s with “Cymande”, an 8-piece ‘rare groove’ band that achieved recognition with a series of high-profile tours in The States between 1971-1974. The 7-piece outfit has been attracting similar reviews for more than ten years now. Singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist James Studholme is at the helm, supported by fiddle, banjo, accordion, trumpet, bass and drums. These varied instruments allow the band create a mosaic of sounds and songs including husky ballads mourning lost loves, foot-stompers about the West Country and full-throated, multi-harmony anthems.
