Winchester Festival: Southern Voices

Southern Voices and Southern Sinfonia, conducted by Katherine Dienes-Williams. The programme includes Stravinsky Mass, JS Bach Jesu, meine Freude and Singet dem Herrn. Southern Voices have a reputation not just for fine and inspiring singing, but also for putting together programmes of exciting and innovative music. For their Festival concert this year they bring two undoubted masterpieces of the Baroque, paired with a Twentieth Century take on older styles. J S Bach's motets are as rewarding to sing as they are to hear, with contrasting moods and textures reflecting a breadth of emotion. Stravinsky's setting of the Mass, with wind accompaniment, brings a similar mix of thrills and haunting beauty.
