Winchester Festival Opening Concert
Start time: 7.30pm
French music of drama and grandeur, showcasing local and international artists, will resonate through the Cathedral for the opening concert of this year's Winchester Festival. Hector Berlioz' Te Deum, designed for a grand occasion, calls for a large choir along with a choir of young voices, with a prominent part for organ. A generation later, Saint-Saëns wrote his Third Symphony for performance in London and it has been a popular favourite for many years. The Hampshire County Children's Choir joins Winchester's Waynflete Singers, members of the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and the Philharmonia Orchestra, as well as the Cathedral's resident King of Instruments, under the guidance of Owain Arwel Hughes. Tickets: £35, £28, £21, £16, £12 available online from the Cathedral Box Office or by phone on 01962 857 275
