London-based chaos merchants Sweet Unrest have left audiences pleasantly shellshocked since forming in 2023, a moment that was only possible after frontman Jack River got sober. The band has since become his lifeline, a relentless creative outlet where destructive instincts are channeled into music and music videos. Self-proclaiming the genre ‘Gritpop’, there’s a constant creative conflict at their core – Jack’s insistence that every song carry a poetry of its own pulling against the band’s instinct for gut-punch immediacy. It’s this tension that gives Sweet Unrest their distinctive sound, and fuels their unpredictable live shows, forever teetering on the edge of beautiful collapse.
