Performing Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, Bax's Tintagel, Delius' Walk to the Paradise Garden and Bruch's Violin Concerto, with Alexandra Soumm (violin); conducted by Rui Pinheiro. Premiered by the then Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra under Sir Dan Godfrey in 1921, Bax's tone poem Tintagel evokes "the castle-crowned cliff of Tintagel Castle and the wide distances of the Atlantic as seen from the cliffs of Cornwall on a sunny but not windless summer day". Delius's Walk to the Paradise Garden is an entr'acte from the opera A Village Romeo And Juliet and describes the tragic beauty of mortality in an overwhelming texture of sound. Bruch's lyrical and ebullient Violin Concerto and Rimsky-Korsakov's big-scale Scheherazade are two of the most classical pieces of all time and hardly need any introducing!
