Event:  Whitchurch Folk Club: Melrose Quartet - 8pm - Melrose Quartet invite you to join them for an evening of festive songs and silliness. With their trademark exquisite close harmony and high energy accompaniments on fiddles, melodeon, guitar and bouzouki, Nancy Kerr, James Fagan and Jess & Richard Arrowsmith bring you a wide range of joyous seasonal music from traditional carols to contemporary wassails. You’ll be treated to a selection of the finest rousing village carols from their local Sheffield area alongside new seasonal songs from some of their region’s best writers. The band will be in the mood to party so there will be dressing up, games with prizes and lots of choruses to join in with, plus an award for the most memorable Christmas jumper. This is a concert with something for everyone and would even draw a smile out of Scrooge!

Event:  Whitchurch Folk Club: New Year's Eve Ceilidh - 8pm - Whitchurch Folk Club will hold our annual New Year's Eve Ceilidh at the Whitchurch Parish Hall. Kicking off from 8pm (doors, 7:30pm), this family-friendly event will run until the final dance just after midnight, with live music and dancing throughout most of the evening. We'll have a well-stocked bar, and adults will receive a glass of bubbly at midnight included in the price.

Event:  Whitchurch Folk Club: Sam Baxter & Merle Harbron plus Helen Gentile & Lewis Wood - 7.30pm - Sam Baxter and Merle Harbron are an Anglo/Scottish duo creating dynamic, full-bodied arrangements of contemporary and traditional music. Using fiddle, drones and voice, the pair build vibrant musical landscapes, weaving together melodic lines inspired and improvised from traditional songs and dance music. Helen Gentile & Lewis Wood (Threepenny Bit and Granny’s Attic respectively), perform an evocative set of tunes from the balfolk canon on clarinet and fiddle. The duo combines the talent of two musicians who are firmly embedded into the folk music community in England. Their material comprises traditional, contemporary and original European folk dance music, with loose, ever-evolving arrangements creating space for improvisation and showcasing the interplay between the instruments.
